Excellence Award in the 'Write As Rain 2014' competition
As the year grows old
The trees
Cracking in the wind
The leaves
Scarlet, flame-red and gold
Elegantly twirling towards the grey earth
A bluish haze on the distant hills
Crisp and bitter becomes the night
Leaves fall like rain
In the cold of the early morning
The birds sing with the wind
And dance in autumn's glory
Dark decaying trees
Masked by vibrant leaves
Yet this is autumn's way
To create a beautiful day
