Melancholy (Based On The Painting By Edvund Munch)

A figure on the rocks,
His sight fixed on the dying luminous sun,
All in black attire, indistinguishable to the night,
He rests chin in palm.

In the distance a couple stand, fingers intertwined,
They dance to the crashes of the waves,
Tears well in the sitting man's eyes, he too had a beautiful wife,
And up in the bleak sky an angel gazed from above.

The rippling, rolling waves caught in his trance,
In whispers they call his name,
Come closer, come closer, they say,
Suddenly interrupted by another voice.

Padded footsteps scamper,
A smile creeps on his face,
Behind his charming little boy,
They watch together as the sun sets.
