2014
1st in the 'Write As Rain 2014' competition
In a city of strangling smog
rivers of tarmac flow,
the people work in perpetual slog
ignorant from the happenings below.
In the cracking of an abandoned path
sprouts, frail and rare
a small pink bud
its beauty, naturally beyond compare.
In a city of shades of grey
a pink blossom thrives
overshadowed by man-made buildings
its petals proudly rise.
Against wind, frost and snow
the blossom soon dies
seeds drop just as a gentle breeze begins to blow
in the hands of nature, the seeds that it shall sow.
