Basket

A young bird found a basket for her eggs,
Her dappled, coruscating eggs,
Four eggs in one basket placed she:
An egg for trust, an egg for hope; more eggs for love and precious time.
She placed all her eggs in a single basket,
Not realising that she should divide them among many.
And so the basket broke, a hole formed at its base,
Letting all the eggs fall to the ground.
The egg for trust and the egg for hope were broken.
The bird gathered her eggs again
And found several new baskets, strong baskets.
She divided her eggs among them:
The eggs for trust, the eggs for hope; the eggs for love and precious time.
For the bird had learned something-
That it’s best not to put all your eggs in one basket
When it comes to friendship.
