Excellence Award in the 'The Write Track 2015' competition
The rain washes the blood from the dirt but it can never wash the pain away,
The memory of those that served will never be the one of shame,
Many lives were lost as the sun began to rise,
The enemy hidden, the shadows were their disguise,
Never has the act of bravery ever been so great,
As the Anzac's stormed the beach charging up the straight,
By the time the sun had risen most of them lay dead,
Spirits rising to the heavens about to lay to bed,
And as the spirits of the men lay to rest,
We repay them by remembering them,
We are forever in their debt
