A Dangerous Little Game (an Excerpt)

The smooth white walls, polished to the finest quality, reflected everything that was going on below: the Knights galloping around, dying to save the king. The unarmed pawns serving their country as best possible. The bishops standing strong for their religion. The floor of the battlefield had been painted the colours of the countries fighting on it. Black, for the Kingdom that had tried to pillage the locals. And white for the country that stood, drawing weaker by the second. Just then the sky drew dark and Cooper muttered "checkmate."
