Last July I saw a colossal, Herculean red rock.
It’s scale compared to human life, was a grand shock.
Bigger than the Eiffel Tower, larger than the Sydney Harbour Bridge,
with ripples, it’s one monstrous, alveolar looking ridge.
I enjoyed a stroll around the base of the sandstone monolith.
Listening to the guide share Aboriginal stories and myth.
Liru, many poisonous snakes and Kuniya, a python
Were in a spear fight, blood and death are dreamtime bygone.
This Australian outback site is sacred to Anangu people.
With its spirits, waterholes, paintings, it’s a place most peaceful.
I didn’t see a mala, but I know for a matter of fact,
That this endangered animal is being introduced back.
I watched the rock at different times during my holiday,
When day turns into night, and night into day.
I saw the shades of red, orange, purple and blue,
And took photographs of this most magnificent view, known as Uluru!
