Finalist in the 'Read Write Repeat 2015' competition
Flowers blooming pink and yellow, boughs again become lovely,
The fruits ripe and mellow, the streams fresh and bubbly.
This beautiful paradise ruined only by the pollution we produce,
We believe that the fact we all contribute is an excuse.
The sky is clouded with smog, the birds are leaving their home.
You stare at this wasteland, agog, you start to walk and roam
Among the broken fences, the houses dilapidated and drab.
You experiment with your senses, you see a hard brick slab,
You smell crude fumes, tracing your hand along withered bark,
You taste acrid smoke turning the world gloomy and dark.
You hear the booming explosion, of a devastating car collision
Burning the lush bushes to a cinder, their re growth hindered
By us and us only, sadly soon the earth will be lonely.
If we remain dumb, this is what our world will become.
