Red Poppies
I've come back from the war,
And I’m broken to the core,
Although I’m alive –
I wish I didn’t subscribe.
I don’t like to talk about it,
Much less admit,
That I too killed others
Who had fathers and mothers.
Who now mourn for their loved ones.
So it doesn’t cost
To buy a poppy for the lost,
And respect those who died –
And those who tried...
