Scars Have Never Been Extraordinary

These are not beautiful battle scars
They do not display my strength for all the world to see
They are not a line of poetry
They are not an aesthetic to be desired.
These are not lilies on my skin
Or bravery on my sleeve,
There is nothing extraordinary or beautiful about them at all.
They are simply a reminder of a darkly enticing past
That calls from rusted metal from time to time
They are a result of a failed chemistry experiment
A controlled explosion gone wrong
They are not beautiful.
They are not ugly.
They simply are.
