Soldiers scattered across sludge,
A battlefield,
With the enemy close by
Nothing but fear in a soldier’s eyes.
My salty tears sting my eyes,
As I watch another one of my friends fall
One soldier left,
Just him and I
A flash of light
A cry for help,
My only fighter left,
Staggering to the ground.
I kneel beside him,
Hoping I could just pluck the strings of fate and bargain for just one more hour
But he closed his eyes as the last sound fired,
So goodbye my old friend I'll see you on the other side.
