It’s an ever-changing shadow;
Dancing in the sunshine;
Or racing through the meadows,
Hiding in the darkest corner;
Or in the deepest ocean.
Too fast to catch, too hard to find.
Too large to hold, too small to see.
It rips at hearts and chokes with it’s grip.
It brings smiles and joy;
Tears and anguish.
For with it’s victory comes a price;
A price often too high to reach.
It lets us down and it builds us up.
It can’t be caught; cannot be tied down.
It shifts, it hides, it mocks, it laughs.
It’s our best friend; our worst enemy.
