Unless You've Been A Solider

Unless you’ve been a soldier,
You just won’t understand.
The things that they’ve seen and done.
In the service of our land.
They’ve trained to live in combat,
To cope with awful sights,
That shouldn’t be seen by anyone,
And keep you awake at nights.
They won’t discuss the wounds they have,
To the body or the mind.
They just put their hurts behind them,
And turn their memories blind.
They are proud they served our country,
And remember those they’ve lost.
For the freedom that we have today.
They paid the awful cost.
