The old woman
Sat in her rocking chair, creaking,
Swinging back and forth
Watching gracefully as the sun rose
Presenting a new day.
The sun glistened on the dew
Sprinkled gently on the flowers and grass.
The woman sat still,
Gently stroking her cat
With soft, wrinkled hands
Worn away by her life’s work.
The day was crisp.
The air was clean.
The reeds swayed swiftly in the breeze.
The old woman tenderly closed her eyes
And rested her head
As the stroking stopped
And the world became still and silent.
