Hardship's Melody

Their breath steamed against their masks,
Stale and strained from a lifetime of seeking
For a diamond in the darkness.

Soil stained the air,
Circulating and suffocating their gloves
As they fumbled for a fortune with their axes.

And the earth grumbled in gripe
As they pounded craters: Their form of art,
To the only music they recognised:

To the melody of their hearts.
