Excellence Award in the 'Word Zone 2016' competition

The rain fell hard,
and my heart shrank down.
The sun was blocked,
but I couldn’t hear a sound.

The thought of gunshots,
and the feeling of fear.
The cries of children,
still rang in my ear.

The world turned black,
I started feeling cold.
Sadness crawled up my spine,
I wished I was home.

BANG! The sound hits me,
I fall to the ground.
Then all my thoughts,
were left unfound.
