We thought war would be exciting
We thought war would be fun.
To sacrifice ourselves for our country
Like countless others had done.
But we realised it was the opposite
As we crossed the grey sea.
And as warm blood stained the Golden sands of Gallipoli.
And we hid in those trenches
We tried to survive, we tried!
But more doubts began to arise
As friends and comrades died and died.
Near the end of the war, we were unwilling to fight
Because mountains of carnage swallowed our camp whole.
But we were pondering about what it; no WE had caused to be made
A cemetery full of uneasy souls.
