Death On The Battlefield

Bombs wreak havoc on the battlefield
So many bodies left unrevealed
So many soldiers; their fates sealed
So much death on the battlefield
The planes fight up so high
So much less graceful than a butterfly
As pilots start to fly, they say silent goodbyes
Then they die over the battlefield
The warships chug across the open water
But all could be ended in the yell of order
One torpedo or such in a time of disorder
And more men join the deaths on the battlefield
Back at home, sit weeping mothers
They have received a letter in yellow covers
They know what is enclosed inside
That their son is left forever on the battlefield
