Golden Wings

We dipped our wings in gold, making new from old
The graceful wings did soar, the shining colour did roar
But soon we began to fall, suddenly weak and small
The purity gave lies, we were deceived by our eyes
The heavy gold was wrong, we thought it made us strong
It sank us during flight, despite its alluring sight
With tears in our eyes, we fell from the skies
We can never trust by looks, in a world full of crooks
Many mistakes were made, those dreams were forbade
And yet my heart still sings, for those golden wings
