One Thousand Leaves

The books they ran,
The pages flew into the sky,
The bookmarks curled up,
And the lights clicked off.
The books that didn't,
Knew that they should have,
And all of a sudden things started to get hot,
The words dripped off.
Ink and all, visible to no one anymore,
The pages shrivelled,
And burned to ash,
Words not spoken have now been lost.
Leather covers scorched and torn,
Pages that were yellow are now black and lifeless,
Past and history gone in the wind,
Scattered like one thousand leaves.
