It comes crashing into my brain like dark black flood water,
destroying everything that I’ve so carefully put into place.
the false realities,
the false hopes,
the false dreams.
each time the waves come washing in
they shatter these lies, the fake stories,
leaving me to pick up the shards that cut my fingers to ribbons.
and every time the glass breaks,
the pieces get smaller and smaller
and soon,
there will be nothing for me to build.
and the water will rise and rise until I drown.
But I’ll close the flood gates and keep the water inside,
