War
The field is silent; not a man to be heard,
Not even the tweet of a bird.
But everyone knows that the enemy lurks
In the tall, thin grass.
A sheet of bullets plunged in our direction
As we ducked with fear in our hearts.
Bodies lay everywhere as the poppies bloomed
But of course we knew that everyone was doomed.
The war continued, not a critter to be seen
To continue the war, no one was keen.
Who knew that something so simple as strife,
Gave me no chance in life.
