Oh evil one, oh darkness itself, the one
in our thoughts when our mind is blank.
You scare us, ruin us, until we stop screaming
at monsters and scream at ourselves.
We beg you every night to let us go,
to give us peace even for a single day.
We beg to every god, to every power,
and yet you continue to hide in our dreams.
Even though we refuse and keep rejecting,
you hang on, seducing us with your words.
We begin to believe you, how could we not?
For you are all of us, and we are you.
And now I ask you, prostrating myself,
pleading for a final answer, for final relief.
I do this on behalf of everyone you misshape.
Why won’t you let me go, why won’t let us go?
