Men Of Amien

The church bells had finally rung
It was the end of the war
So many gone! But the young
Hoping that war was nevermore
The news felt like the morning sun
The world was now a place of joy and love
Finally, the days of normality had begun,
Finally, answered were the prayers to the above
While soldiers and nurses danced in the street
And victory was celebrated with parade
Those who would never be light again on their feet
Feared their gruesome memories would never fade
As the early days of peace went past
The drunken celebrants woke tattered
What opportunity would fate now cast?
How to mend their lives so shattered?
