As the amber sun set, that cold, starry night,
the trees became denser as the shadows crept on;
slinking through the forest in the pale moonlight
eerie arms flitting with all light withdrawn.
The owl swooped in like a fox hunting prey;
Eyes like pale candles searching the ground.
Her wide wings carry her down and away.
Her razored claws cut through the air around.
Risking the light, an anxious mouse scurries.
The owl's sight keen, she darts fast through the trees.
The mouse fears, and into the bush hurries;
The owl dives fast but caught nought but breeze.
The owl returned, up above to her perch,
but her chicks need food, so back to the search.
