For 9855 days I have watched the sun rise and fall through my prison bars
But on this, the 9856th I will watch the sun rise with a new beginning
Not sure of what awaits me behind these walls
I have my freedom but am I truly free
As he walks through the gates the sun shines on his dark skin
Through the facade of his smile I see the pain within
He tells the few of us new to his cause
His story, his life, it all
Madiba I think he said it was
The place where he grew up
And learnt about his people
The called them selves the Thembu lot
His name is Mr Mandela
But I think it should be so much more
The humanitarian, saint and leader
The man we all adore
