The kids awake the next morning on the street
The sunset hit like a splash of cold water
It was harsh and dry, with only sweat on their faces to help them
No signs of food, water or money
Life wasn’t sweet like the taste of honey
The breeze was like a thick blanket that would only cause more heat
Sounds of cars and busy traffic surrounded the people
They all wondered when they could catch a break or find a home
As it got darker it got colder, they lit a fire as an escape from the freezing temperature
They would look up and see dozens of stars wishing they could shoot up like a shooting star
They all felt like family because all they had was each other
Their eyes were full of darkness but their hearts were full of light and hope
Their hearts were their motor and motivation to keep going
Their souls were hungry for life
Their shoes will carry them through their journey.
Through the journey that would change their lives.
