April 25th 1915
Have you ever stopped to think of what this day really does mean?
Do you about the battle and all the men that died?
Or about their fellow soldiers who fought right by their side?
Can you imagine the noise, the worry and the fear,
Hiding in the trenches knowing the Turks were near?
Have you heard about the injuries that some suffered there?
Some so badly hurt that their hope was prayer.
Those that did survive were never the same again,
Their wounds and their memories caused them constant pain.
What about the loved ones the soldiers left behind?
The fear of losing their trooper was always on their mind.
They kept in touch with letter of love and of hope
That gave them lots of comfort which really helped them cope.
Although this was so long ago,
There in Gallipoli poppies still shall grow.
It's important that we know about the sacrifices they made
And tell future generations so the memory of the Anzacs will never ever fade.
