The boat rocks and turns as I clamber over to the edge,
I grasp on with all my might to the tiny, skinny ledge.
I am scared and feel the the mental scars and pain,
I wish it would all wash away with rain.
I hear someone scream for help as they get tossed into the deep, dark ocean,
I feel sick with fear as I get used to the water's motion.
It's been three days so we should be there soon,
I will feel like a butterfly that's just burst out of a cocoon.
We can see the mainland peek through all the sea mist,
Goodbye old country; you're bottom of my list.
I really hope they let me stay, I did just come all this way.
We are Australian and we should stand proud and tall,
We should say “G'Day Mate,” and welcome them all.
