Just Like The Rest

An awaiting gun held against your chest,
A headline just like the rest,
A story of tragedy because you “resisted arrest”,
Martin Luther’s peace spoken so long ago,
You hear the words of what was once a dream echo,
Yet slowly but surely, King's hope grew to myth,
As hate replaced love, the world went amiss,
Compassion became ignorance, and now your time is pressed,
It lays in his hands not being determined by what you do next,
Your softly spoken words,
uttered to calm, did nothing but provoke,
He drew closer,
Your voice became a scream trapped in your throat,
A gun which was once held against your chest,
Stands above you after he finally put you to rest,
A story, a headline, just like the rest.
