In the dark shadows of the grimy city streets; Hiding from the wind, from the cold winter night
Wishing for the warmth of blankets and sheets; For the first bright rays of heat and sunlight
Home is at the station, under the storm; Nothing to keep them warm, clean or dry
Wishing for a place not on the platform; For a sleep not under the starry night sky
Food is never ever abundant and plentiful; Even one small mouthful feels like a miracle
Wishing to not be so bony and skeletal; To be able to eat til their belly is full
Why do we never help those who live in hunger?; Or those who live on the dark and grimy streets
Or those who aren’t able to keep dry and warm; Or those who will never have enough to eat
One bad move and we could be in that spot; With no one willing to help us in need
To offer a hand when things go wrong; It’s not hard to help, to do a good deed
