Excellence Award in the 'Horizon of Dreams 2018' competition
The teams ran out onto the field. We stood in a row facing the opposition while we sang the national anthem. The whistle blew and they kicked it off. The game started. We got the ball. I grabbed the pass and ran straight through to the try line. I scored. The crowd went wild. “Yippee! Yippee!”
I went for the goals. I got it in. The crowd went wild. “Goal!”
I could not stop smiling.
We hit it off. The ball flew up and up. Then the other team got the ball. They passed the ball down the line. At the last minute, I took a chance and lunged forward with all my might. My hands were like glue as I grabbed for the intercept. I ran for the try line and scored. The crowd went wild “Scorrrrrrrre!”
Feeling strong, I went for the goals. I missed. I shook my head, I had let my team down this time.
Running back to the centre, I kicked the ball. The other team passed it out to their wing, he was lightning fast. They scored. The crowd on the other side went wild. “Go!” they cried out.
It was half time. I had to pick up my game I said to myself as we ran into the sheds. My coach depended on me.
