The Autumn leaves set the streets ablaze
And set fire to branches in their rage
The season seems to be stealing their light
So they make it for themselves
Turing the leaves blinding yellow
And bleeding crimson pigment from their battle wounds
They will not let the cold kill them
Not without a fight
The last ones standing become surrounded by ashes and skeletons
Of their once lush home
The last leaf falls from its branch
As a tear falls from a cheek
Softly and with regret
Unaware of the abundance it will come to know
Once again
