Waking to the sound of a gun,
feeling a rush of panic come.
Running from the hurt, the pain,
the monsters that I haven't slain.
The monsters only I can see,
I can feel them coming to kill me.
Lying in my daughters arms,
shaking in tense alarm.
Listening to her calm me down,
all the sounds of war are drowned.
Leaving behind the memories,
that have haunted me for centuries.
Starting a new hope filled life,
away from all the war and strife.
The monsters will always be there,
but now they have no one to scare.
