Excellence Award in the 'Just Keep Writing 2019' competition

Birds chirp; the sun rises,
The dawn of a new day.
Bright colours fill the sky as the sun
Escapes through the clouds.
All is peaceful, all is quiet,
Awaiting to be broken.
Rivers trickle,
Rippling against the rocks.
Trees sway in the wind,
Dragged in its direction.
Gaps within the canopy expose the blue sky,
While green leaves hide its full potential.
As the day closes, and all settles down,
Clouds close in above
Like a blanket across the sky.
Pinks and purples cover the horizon,
While darkness takes the light.
Twinkling stars give us something to wish for,
And something to be unknown.
