Maybe We Do

We slow danced in the handball courts, for anyone to see
We knew we were slowly breaking
We clung to each other, tears circulating, hearts shattering, stomachs churning as if we knew it would be the last forgiven moment
The next day is harder,
We begin to look opposite directions, your heart strings pulled another way
I pretend I’m ok, I count away each day
A void stronger then anything I’ve known begins to form, normal life distracts us, routine calling
A void still growing, I see you everywhere, a heart is torn
Losing friends, losing the rhyme, losing my school, nothing compares
And yet, part of me knows I’m free, no longer held back by that place, that time
Yet here I am, pen in hand not letting myself forget, to forever remind
Because maybe I did wrong, maybe I could have fixed the remains of the dove
I cling to the memories, I crave the moments, I hurt, I hurt, I hurt
And why?
Because maybe we knew we lost a real kind of love.
