Of all things to hold so much power, why our reflection?
Why a vision of our own self, or of our body at least?
Is it because we so deeply long for perfection?
We yearn for the beauty yet feel like the beast.
Are we scared of what we will see, or of what we may not?
Afraid of letting down our guard, having people see our faults?
Do we fear being reminded of what we had only just forgot?
That we cannot conceal our flaws inside an invisible vault.
We know perfection does not exist, yet we chase it desperately.
And with every glance towards the mirror, our hope fades away.
For we are not perfect, let alone happy with what we see.
It is only in others we see beauty, and so we continue to pray.
We pray for a change of appearance instead of a change of heart.
But perfection is overrated, be individual, stay true.
You are a beautiful mosaic, a unique work of art.
Beauty begins the moment you start being you.
