The eager cheers have long since faded,
Now silently through the mud they waded.
There is no longer separation of class or race
Here they are one in fighting the horrors they must face.
Hunched over in the freezing night,
None can sleep, all shiver in fright.
Tomorrow awaits yet another bloody battle
There more shall lie dead, all slaughtered like cattle.
How much they all suffer, simply for the freedom of another.
They fight for everyone back home, even strangers.
Even after, in times of peace,
The war in their heads will never cease.
Although we can’t remove the scars or bring back the deceased.
We will forever remember them at least.
So we’ll all bow our heads and say,
Lest we forget
