As the stars glitter, twinkling in the sky,
I lay gazing up at them, wondering why,
I continue to fight, my own silent duel.
Fate laughs as I love, twisted and cruel.
Your red hair glows like a fire in the night.
Your green eyes sparkle, emerald upon white.
Your laugh is a gift, a sound we all treasure,
And your creamy skin is freckled, yet soft as a feather.
They told me I’d sinned and He’d send me to hell.
A disgrace to all Catholics, to my family as well.
Controlled by fear, I hid my feelings away.
But as I grew up, I saw love my own way.
I’ve changed now Bonnie, I’m no longer afraid.
It’s their fault if they’re blinded by the stigma they’ve made.
I won’t be controlled, or told what to do.
Because love is love, and I love you.
