As I perch from the edge of the tree,
I strain my ears for the quiet singing of my friends and family,
The whistling, the laughter
But I am greeted with silence.
I see the golden sun rising from under the sea
And the black boat, stopping in front,
Hiding the sunlight, the only ray of light
The silent rippling of water sends a ruffle through me
The dead silence doesn’t calm me,
It uneases me
The damp brown boardwalk stretches out
As if a bridge to the sun
It reaches out to me, calling me beyond.
As I start to fly towards it
My feet skimming the surface,
I am a bird and I will fly
Towards the glorious sunrise
