So, it’s nearly Christmas and it’s becoming incredibly hot. Usually I’d say something like, “mum I’m going outside for a dip in the pool!” And she’d let me. But not today. Today, one of mums business colleagues is coming over for dinner to discuss whether or not she’s ‘boss’ quality. Honestly, I don’t want to be there but I have to. She doesn’t want me anywhere near the pool in case I ‘smell like chlorine’.

Anyway, today’s going to be the last day of school until the Christmas holidays and I can’t wait until they start. But I’ve got a problem. My two best friends, Evie and Charlotte are in a massive fight and aren’t talking to each other.

So here I am walking out to breakfast when I spotted my two older siblings, Elise who’s fifteen and George who’s eighteen. They’re hogging all the food that mum left on the table for breakfast. A row of bacon, eggs, pancakes and hash browns were lying in a straight row along the table runner; and at the very end of the table was cordial and tap water.

“Leave some for Oakley and Tom you two.” Mum warned.

Oh yeah and I forgot to mention... I’ve got a little brother as well. He’s only four and his name’s Tom. He fits in with everyone unlike me. That’s why people call me Odd Oakley, because everyone in my family is a brunette, but I’m a redhead. I’ve also got green eyes and pale skin. Everyone else is olive and has got dark brown eyes. I’m odd in a few ways actually. I eat pizza from the crust and I pore my milk in before my cereal when I eat cereal for breakfast on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“It’s fine mum. I have to get to school early anyway if I want to finish off one of my Christmas cards for Grandma and Grandpa.”

When I arrived at school everyone was staring at me. I was wearing the wrong uniform and looked weird which is usually what to expect when you come across some-one like me. Evie and Charlotte were giving each other the death stare and talking about each other behind one anothers back to me at the lockers.

But after school was even worse, they even started throwing their left-over food at eat other and calling each other horrible names.

In the end, they both ended up covered in heaps of disgusting sludge.

“If you two can’t be friends then you’ll both have to forget about being my friend.”

With that one sentence they both looked at me and turned went as red as cherries. Soon their faces began tearing up and before they knew it, they were hugging. “I’m so sorry for saying you can’t do anything right I should’ve known that would’ve started the fight.”

And thankfully they became friends after all.
