28th of September it was,
William of Normandy arrived at Sussex.
Bringing along a great big army,
He planned to attack shortly.

An ambush was planned,
To surprise William’s army.
But it was the king who was trapped,
For William had come to know of his plan.

A few days prior to the battle,
William challenged Harold to a duel.
Harold rejected and in this way,
Chose the fate of him and his men.

The English fought bravely,
However they were overpowered largely.
Eight hours of fighting it took,
For the battle to conclude in William’s favor.
