Excellence Award in the 'The Inside Story 2020' competition
Icy grey clouds drift across golden skies above
The trees rustle as creatures converse
I am still, while movement surrounds me
– frozen; appreciative, reflective
Does the world around me have a mind of its own?
Sometimes it’s hard to believe that I am independent;
That I would still be here that if the things- the people here
Just ceased to live and exist
I still can’t seem to grasp the fact that I can think and feel-
Think and feel different to other things; to other people
Sometimes it feels as if this body isn't even mine
As if for a second your mind transports elsewhere
Into another anonymous entity
Leaving your body still- lifeless
And somehow your mind becomes
Mindlessness
A shiver runs down the body
my body.
