Finalist in the 'The Inside Story 2020' competition
In the shadows, behind the curtains
Deep in the ground, where death lies certain
In my dreams, within the confines of my mind
While there is poison, words are much less kind
Lucrative fantasies, a product of my imagination
Wild daydreams swallow me whole with no hesitation
Endless stories all ending with the same fate
Alternate endings arrive too late
While there is joy and happy endings
Once the book is shut its death is impending
Beautiful words, entrapment is inescapable
I know of the ending, yet the desire is insatiable
There may be pictures and moving miracles
But worlds lie between pages, unparalleled and irresistible
So, turn the page, succumb to words
Just beyond, countless stories to be heard
