A Different Journey

Your stare used to horrify me,
That awful, dreadful look of sheer disappointment in me although,
I had done nothing to make that clear
For I was just a kid and you were my ‘guardian’
Yet it was as if you guarded yourself from me
You were like sharp, pointy spikes that kept our relationship at six-feet
And your booming voice echoing through the halls,
that all used to terrify me, but not anymore
You see I’ve grown, and learnt, and become wise and brave
It is not my fault, the way that you behave
For I am still just a kid and it’s not my role to understand you
But I truly hope you find peace and realisation within yourself
That you lost a relationship that would have meant the world
But now, I walk away as I know it is best for me
To say goodbye to what does not serve me and put those bad memories to ease
So for now I say, I’m going on a different journey
One where I can be free of the dark past and one that will last
Where I, can be me
