Guns Were Popping, Popping
Gallipoli’s bombs were dropping, dropping
The young, the dreamers and the brave
Caught up in a nightmare told to follow and behave
The deafening silence, destruction and screams
Destroying their lives and erasing their hopes and dreams
Soldiers were sent to invade Turkey’s shore
A costly error in the ANZAC war
As the poppies renewed, regenerated and silently grew
So too the world realising, accepting and trying to be anew
The poppies rejoiced and smiled in delight
As millions of observers honoured them, holding them tight
As the last post echoed throughout the land
Brothers, sisters and mates stand tall hand in hand
We remember their bravery and their sacrifice on ANZAC day
To recall the events that happened far away
