A Summer’s Journey

The everlasting hum of nostalgia, of cicadas.
Carried through the still evening breeze
Chirping till morning and night.
The sweet sound of summer.
The salty taste on the tip of your tongue,
Washed away by the crashing waves,
Miraging against the reflected sun
That shines pink, orange and blue.
A sensation always so near,
The promise of the bundles of fun to come.
But the trickles of sweat running down,
Between smiles and sunscreen.
Paddling out to a new adventure every day
With a rip that could take you out of shore,
Into the unknown land that lies ahead.
A journey that I call summer.
