imagine you were born in a different place
as if your soul had somehow seemed to be displaced

and the world you lived in was full of betrayal
your whole life story—an unfortunate tale

no food, no water, no place to call home
the sounds of distant war, always feeling alone

and when they come back with the bodies and the bones
a sigh of relief when you see no one you know

you could be next, you could be lying there
with no one to save you, no one who even cares

but you were born in a place that you did not decide
be grateful for the privileges that others were denied
