Sunrise

In the stillness of the night
The stars shine with a faint light
Crickets croak, insects fly
An air of quiet in the sky

Only broken by streaks of dawn
The shadows flee; the sun yawns
It’s golden arms marked by shimmering sheen
Morning arises; a beautiful scene

An orange haze; horizon billowing
The wind whips ‘round; dust is winnowing
Approaching gloom, an auburn veil
Stirring soil with every gale

Biting grit and clouds of sand
Grime and dirt fly over the land
How can earth be so divine,
If it is shrinking all the time?
