Like a water lily on the surface of the pond
So goes my thoughts
Some spiralling out of control
Some stuck in place
And some placidly floating through
Some with roots barely reaching below the surface,
And some whose roots reach far below
Some of these lilies have bloomed
And some are yet to reveal their delicate beauty
Yet some of these blossoms have shrivelled and remain dead on the surface
These blossoms are in need of removal,
But are too deep in the centre of the pond so are left untouched
Their condition slowly spreads to the other blossoms, even those not yet bloomed
The delicate and mesmerising beauty of these lilies has vanished
And so, like dead water lilies on the surface of a pond
So goes my thoughts
